The mission of Catholic Charities is to provide services to anyone in need, regardless of race or religion; to advocate justice, human dignity and quality of life; and to call all people to join in these efforts; thereby reflecting the compassion of God in Christ.
Welcome to Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc.
Our mission defines our values, our purpose and our priorities as a Catholic agency. Our mission declares the difference we seek to make in the lives of families and individuals we serve in the Diocese of St. Augustine.
Today the Catholic Charities network has four regional offices, located in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lake City and St. Augustine. Although the services may vary from site to site, the goal of our programs in each office and satellite location is to respond to the unique needs in the communities we serve. It is our Catholic identity and Catholic Social Teaching that calls upon us to see Jesus in the face of the poor.
Catholic Charities could not be responsive to our communities without the work of our staff, volunteers and board of directors and the support we receive from the diocese, our donors, and founders. Together we are living our responsibility to love our neighbor as we love ourselves (Mark 12:31).
Thank you for your support to our agency, and to the individuals, and families we serve. This enables us to spread the word of God’s love and compassion for our fellow man throughout the 17 counties of the Diocese of St. Augustine. May God bless you and those you love.
In charity for all,
Most Reverend Felipe J. Estevez, S.T.D. Laura M. Hickey, Diocesan Director/CEO

Diocesan Offices Closing Friday and Monday
The most recent Hurricane Irma track indicates high winds and rain will impact the 17-county area of the Diocese of St. Augustine. Projections as of today (Wednesday) begin with higher winds and rain beginning Saturday and Sunday with the worst of it on Monday.
All offices of the Diocese of St. Augustine will close Friday and Monday. The diocese is closely monitoring Hurricane Irma, and over the next several days we will provide updates.
Catholic Schools Closures
Catholic Schools for all 17 counties of the diocese will be closed on Friday and Monday as well. Please continue to check www.ccbdosa.org for the operation status of each school for Tuesday.
The diocese owns and operates 31 schools including early learning centers, preschools, elementary and high schools and a special education school.
Parishes are continuing their preparations to minimize the impact to our facilities.
Pastors at each parish will determine if they are celebrating Mass on Saturday and Sunday. Please contact your parish office for further updates regarding the Mass schedule.
No diocesan building meets the criteria to function as a community shelter. We can’t provide the necessary care that is required. We recommend community members utilize official and approved shelters for their area.
After the storm, and once the buildings have been declared structurally sound, our parishes may be used for the distribution of food and other supplies.
Community Response and Recovery
Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc. is equipped to provide long-term recovery assistance for members of the community as needed. In case of a disaster, the agency works with Florida Catholic Charities, Inc. to obtain necessary food, supplies, and services. Catholic Charities will organize the collection, packaging, and distribution of large amounts of food, water, and personal care items by working closely with our parishes in affected communities. For more information, please contact Catholic Charities Bureau – Central Administration by calling (904) 899-5500.
It was a cold and cloudy day in November when a late afternoon phone call startled Theresa and broke her away from the pile of paperwork on her desk. She picked up the phone and said "Hi, I am Theresa with Caring Choices how can I help you?”
Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc. has been serving communities for nearly 70 years. In celebration of our long history and tradition of service, we are enlisting your support. Also please encourage your children, family members and friends to make a donation to Catholic Charities and help us meet our goal to be of service to the ones in most need.
